where faith and real life intersect
This class is designed to help the senior high students look at their lives with an eternal perspective. So often, teenagers can make rash decisions in the urgency of the moment that can have consequences for the rest of their lives. With an eternal perspective, teenagers can breathe easy and include God in their decisions as they navigate the crossroads in their lives.
This class is NOT a sex/purity class. While we will address both of those issues this class is intended to take a more holistic look at the choices teenagers are faced with as they grow into adulthood.
The goal of the class is to give teens a positive challenge by helping them see the purposes that God has for their lives; that their lives are meant for more than what is being offered to them by Satan. Our belief is that if teens can see how their lives fit into the story God is writing for them, the lies and follies of Satan will be less enticing.
We want to build in teens an understanding that God made them. That he has specific plans for their lives and that if they follow the path of Christ they will have hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 2:10, Psalms 139) We also will help expose the lies Satan is trying to convince them of: that clothes make the woman, that sex alone brings happiness, that relationships never end, and that our self worth is determined by society. Lies about womanhood and manhood, lies about parents and popular culture. All of these we hope to bring to the light so our teens will recognize them as they travel through the crossroads.
As teachers, we will be honest with teens about our past struggles and victories. We will not enable poor choices but rather we will offer mercy, compassion, and wise counsel. Our hope as those who have recently lived through these challenging years is that we can help teens today to avoid some of the pitfalls we fell into. We also hope to inspire and encourage the teens with examples in our individual pasts of God’s love and protection, of God’s faithfulness, mercy and forgiveness.
Several of our classes will be combined. However, when it comes to discussing some sensitive and gender specific issues we will break up into guy/girl splits.
