God's Presence

Deuteronomy 6:10-12

10 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you—a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant—then when you eat and are satisfied, 12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

God warns the Israelites before they enter into the Promised Land that there is a good chance that they will forget everything He did and provided for them as they enjoy all of it.  That is one of the biggest problems we face in our spiritual journey, forgetfulness.  We have had the opportunity to live in the Promised Land our entire lives.  We too have been given things we didn’t deserve, reaped benefits that we didn’t work for and ultimately freed from the slavery of sin.

Colossians 3 starting in verse 1 says: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”  If we want to grow in our faith and feed our Spirit, we have to be more aware of God and what He is doing and what He has done.  As we begin noticing God at work, we will be drawn into a deeper relationship with Him because we will be more aware of His presence in our lives.  The things of this earth will lose their importance because we will be developing the right perspective and lens in which to view life.

Here are a few ideas to help you be more mindful of God:

  • As you encounter God throughout the day, offer a prayer thanking Him for being active in your life.

  • At dinner, have everyone go around the table and share what the best part of their day was.

  • Keep a journal of the ways you have seen God at work.

  • Make it a point to share with at least one person each day how God is blessing your life.

  • “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”  (Matthew 5:16)

Darin, Thanks for

Darin, Thanks for encouraging me to take note of God's faithfulness in my life. Today, I was blessed by God sending me a friend to pray for our children and their teachers and school next year. She said she can meet with me once a week to pray. God told Habakkuk "The Righteous will live by Faith." and Paul expanded "Live by Faith not by Sight." Mothering takes so much faith, so it means a lot to me that God has given me a friend who will join me in prayer about our children. ~ Mary Boren
