NEXT Vision

next UPDATE! (April 29, 2010)

At the beginning of this year I introduced a process designed to help us discern the will of God in order to determine what’s next for the Alameda church family.  I described that process as a “congregational conversation” that would give every member an opportunity to participate.  I also said the following: “I want you to know that I have no hidden agenda here.  I honestly don’t know what God has in store for us, but I believe that if we are all working together on this project three things will happen: God will reveal to us what he is calling us to do next; we will strengthen our unity as we work together; and we will guard against the spiritual complacency that is so deadly to a church.”

The first part of the “NEXT” vision process was to determine where we are now.  That was determined through the use of spiritual life survey that every Alameda member was encouraged to take.  The results of that survey were sent back to us a few weeks ago, and those results will be shared with you during our midweek worship on Wednesday nights in May.  During the months of June and July we will break out into working groups on Wednesday nights to discuss the future of 15 different ministry areas (there will also be a Bible study offered for those who don’t want to participate in the focus groups).

On a related note, God has answered the question of “who’s next?” as our Campus Minister.  You may recall that soon after we kicked off the “NEXT” vision series and process, we started a search for a new Campus Minister.  That took a great deal of energy and focus from the leadership, but God has provided and you will hear more about that soon.  Now, all systems are on “go” as we seek to determine what God has in store for us next.

“Nehemiah’s vision wasn’t so much about rebuilding a wall as it was about reestablishing a context for God to demonstrate his power and fulfill his promises to the nations. His vision went beyond simply coming to the aid of a nation in trouble. His vision intersected with the providential hand of God in history. Nehemiah’s challenge to the people that day was a challenge to embrace their destiny as a people, the people through whom God would eventually introduce the Savior of the world.”
